RESIDENCE COMPLEX AT THE FORMER
A.B.E.A. PROPERTY, CHANIA, CRETE

The modelling of the building block includes the development of a network of public and private open-air spaces which would facilitate the neighbourhood's contact with the coastal zone.

The basic parameters for the shaping of the architectural proposal are as follows:

- The development of the building in a Z shape, in order to ensure the greatest possible front with a sea view

- The erection of the building on pilotis: first, in order to preserve the view of the sea from Patriarchou Ioannikiou St and, second, in order to create a semi-open-air area for circulation and as a meeting-point for the residents of the complex.

- The ensuring of access through the building block to schools and the coastal zone.

- The planning of as many open-plan apartments as possible so as to combine the view with the southern orientation.

- The safeguarding of the privacy of the apartments by vertical and horizontal curtains, which are at the same time features in the shaping of the elevations.

- The planting of the free areas of the terrain, and the elevations of the building with climbing plants, so that these will reach the pergolas of the terraces.

- The designing of two-storey apartments on the lawn with a special character of a “detached residence”.
